Trick or Treat

jonathan and Eric dressed as characters from the movie "Dodge Ball" for their Latin Club party.  They took 2nd, and won a $20 gift card. Megan was a minion.  Always a win when you can trick or treat in your jammies.

Fargo Mini-Marathon

Eric and Mom ran the 3rd and final half marathon of the GoFar Challenge Series a few weeks ago in Fargo.  The temperature was perfect for me, but the wind was not!  20 mph-ish from the north, so miles 6-11 were into the wind, and it wasn't well shielded.  It was a very scenic route. Neither Eric or I got the time we wanted, but I caught up to him just before the 12 mile mark and we finished the race together, which was way better (for me, at least).  Don, Jonathan, and Megan were at the finish line.  

Now we'll stick to 10ks for a while!

First Day and more

We are one month in to the 2018-19 school year, and all is going well.  The boys drive to and from school, and that makes me happy.  They drive themselves to and from the Y, and that makes me happy.  They can drive to Walmart to get some groceries for Mom, and that makes me happy.

As always, these pictures do not upload in order and I don't feel like learning how to fix that.

 Eric and I ran the Dick Beardsley Half Marathon in Detroit Lakes Sept 8th.  The course went around both Big and Little Detroit Lake.  It was a little warm, and a little hilly (small, but many elevation changes).  It was a tough course, and I slowed down quite a bit the last 4 miles, but still finished in my goal time.  Eric finished just 45 seconds slower than his Fargo Half time.  He didn't even train.

 One week later we ran the 10K in the Bismarck Marathon.  We both got PRs.  We only have gun times for the race, since the chip reader at the start of the race didn't work.  Good enough

 How many 4.0 16 year olds does it take to change a light bulb?

 Eric is going duck hunting for the first time next weekend.  He went to a shooting clay event with our church group to practice his shooting skills.

 Life goal met for Jonathan!

Megan's best friend moved to Indiana.  We had one last pizza date, then went to the Lewis and Clark Playground.  I bought them matching Braves shirts, too.

SLC Day 4

I skipped the tour to Park City and the Olympic area on Tuesday.  Instead, I went running to and around Liberty Park.  Then I explored the City Creek area, as well as walked to the Gateway mall area (also an open design mall).  I went in to the planetarium, but it was a little over stimulating for me.

 When I returned to the hotel, I spent some time at the pool.

When Don finished his meetings, we went back to the University of Utah.  Their football  stadium is where the opening ceremonies of the 2002 Winter Olympics were held.

 We finished our evening eating at The Garden on the 10th floor of the Joseph Smith Memorial building.  Below is the view we had from our table.

SLC day 3

While Don had meetings all day, I went on a tour of Temple Square.  The buildings and gardens are just beautiful.  The history is so interesting. 

 This tall building is the Joseph Smith Memorial building.  There is a restaurant on the 10th floor.  Don and I ate there 18 years ago, and we at there again on our last night this trip.

 This is where the Mormon Tabernacle Choir performs.  We could have attending a performance on Day 2, but it would have been rushed getting ready in time after the 5k run.  

 

 This is the geneology library.  We could search our relatives, and I learned my kids are quite Canadian.  

 The gardens at Temple Square are something to see!

Across the street from Temple square is a shopping district called City Creek.  A creek actually runs through it.  It's an open air design.  The Mormon Church owns and developed it.

Following our tour of Temple Square, we went to tour the capital.  I left the group at this point since I already had the tour, and walked around the Capital Mall instead.

Monday evening, we were bussed to the Natural History Museum on the University of Utah campus.  The food was good, but Don and I just aren't fancy people, and it was super fancy ish.
