Day 1

The first one up on the first day of school!  She came our of her room giddy with excitement.
Jonathan made his bed before coming out of his room (yes, this is what his bed looks like after he makes it.....)
Jonathan then started the day with a shower, and had his first day of school clothes ready to go
Eric was the last to get up.  He did need some prompting from Mom to get up.

The day went great.  I waited outside the school for Megan.  Then we waited for her brothers.  Eric's face lit up when he saw Megan, and ran up to her to ask her about her day.  Megan talked and talked and talked about her day.  The boys both had fun with their teachers.

And we're off!

More details to come!

Kitten update

Kacy is just over 3 pounds, now, which means she has doubled her weight since we got her!  She is still quite frisky, but also is starting to mellow out....just a bit.  She has discovered the joys of basking in the sun.  She prefers to sleep in our bed, which is just fine with the kids since she gets a little too rambunctious for them at bedtims (and 3 am....).  Megan also hates that Kacy attacks her crazy hair, so she bans the kitten from her room at bedtime.  Kacy likes to be under our covers down by our feet when she sleeps.  Go figures

'Twas the Night Before the First Day of Kindergarten

Mrs. Kautzman gave her students magic confetti at the open house.  You put it under your pillow at bedtime, and it helps you get a good night's sleep before the first day of Kindergarten.  It came with a cute poem that I would share....but I can't find it.
Megan was very excited to use her confetti tongiht. She takes its powers very seriously. Jonathan helped her out a bit.

Thirty minutes later....

Open House 2012

The kids had their open house at school last night.  One little girl was just a wee, teensy bit excited.  The boys were a little excited, too, but not as much as Megan.  The plan was to go to her classroom first, then the boys'.  Megan has Mrs. Kautzmann for her teacher, just like the boys did.  The boys still have to go say hi to her at each open house, so it worked out nice that Megan is in her room.  The boys will likely be taller than Mrs. Kautzmann by the end of the school year.
Eric has Mrs. Miller.  She was also the classroom para when he was in first grade (she was Miss Kranda back then), so he is familiar with her.  He wanted her for his teacher, so I requested her for him.  His good buddy Ryan is also in his class, as well as Garrett.

Jonathan has Mrs. Mills.  He wanted her for his teacher because she is always smiling.  She is also a bit of a 'techie', so we requested her for his teacher.  He could possibly be taller than her by the end of the year, including her spikey hair.

INSERT PHOTO OF JONATHAN AND HIS TEACHER HERE

I neglected to get a picture of Jonathan with Mrs. Mills.  It was the 3rd classroom of the night, and the pressure to sign up quick for party treats took it's toll on me and I forgot.  On a brigter note, I get to bring juice boxes for the boys' parties, and cookies for Megan's.  Score!  I hate when I'm stuck with the fruit and veggie tray!  Jonathan is happy to have his friends Blake and Austin in his classroom.

Both boys have promised to 'look out' for Megan.  They have enjoyed talking up school to her, and telling her all about the routines of Lewis and Clark.  She has already requested I get her a Duke T-shirt to get on Mrs. Conlon's good side (PE teacher)...

Family Fun Night

Eric's orthodontist hosts a Family Fun Night each summer at the Superslide Amusement Park.  Any patient, current or former, is invited.  You can enjoy all the fun rides at the park for free, and they provide a yummy supper.   Megan really wanted to ride the ferris wheel. I did not.  She was not tall enough to ride alone.  Don did not come with us, so I was the lone, responsible, parent.  So, I sucked it up and went on the ferris wheel with her.  Turns out that despite the fact that I was riding a ferris wheel on my 39th birthday, I am still a big baby on them.  I hate them.  I hate any forced vestibular experience.  Shortly after Megan and I were seated in out cart, the boys joined us.  They were 4 cars away from us.  They kept trying to engage me in conversation, but that would have involved me turning my head and looking either up or down, neither of which really appealed to me all that much.  I also did not take any pictures while on the ferris wheel, as it would have involved releasing my death grip on the safety bar that kept Megan and I from plummeting to our death.

We only rode one time.  Meg and I were released before the boys were, so I was able to take some pictures from the ground.  The safe, secure, stable, non-moving ground.

Megan also enjoyed the kiddie roller coaster.

The boys also had fun with the water balloon sling shot game.  They got splashed a few times!

Garage Makeover

Dad came out this week to build some shelves for our garage.

I guess I don't have a picture of all of our loot on the shelves....I'll try to take one of those later.  Right now I'm too tired to do it!

First Vet visit

We took the felines in for check ups today.  Kacy weighed in at 2 lbs, 2 oz, up from ~ the 1.5 pounds she was when we got her.  Trudy weighed in a little over 10#, up about 2# from when we got her.   We were told she could lose some weight.
They are starting to cuddle more.  Trudy now bats at Kacy more for play than for dominance. The other morning, Kacy was even chasing Trudy out of the living room.  Perhaps we should encourage that more as part of Trudy's weight loss regiman.

Harvest

Monday night I picked the first tomotoes off my slicing tomato plant.  I maybe could have left it on the vine another day or so, but I was too excited.  I sliced this one up, chopped up some fresh basil (also from my garden), sprinkled on a little salt (from the store....I don't have a chemistry lab in my home to make/extract NaCl)  and gobbled it up.

Just call me Martha

I got myself a sewing machine for my birthday. Megan has been asking for one since Christmas last year. It arrived today via FedEx (I ordered it from Walmart). Megan had as much expressive excitement as when we went to Disney. I had already purchased some fabric, so we were able to start a project right away.

Check out those new, well tailored, pajama bottoms!  Megan also wanted me to make her a pajama top, but I didn't see any of those on Pinterest under "easy beginner sewing projects...."
She chose the "Hello Kitty" pattern.  I also have a monkey pattern that we will use for another pair.  The scraps will be enought for either a blankie for her dolls, or a pillow for the kitten.

If you give a kid a camera....

They might take a whole bunch of random pictures.  Can you guess which kid had my camera?

30

We did it!  We played on 30 different playgrouds.  We hit our landmark playground Sunday evening.  Don was able to come with us. We went to Jaycee Park in Bismarck.  There are no slides at this playground, which is an unfortunate trend at several of the newer playgrounds we have visited.

Kacy...again

Kacy is not supposed to be on the counters or kitchen table.  We got a squirt bottle to teach her this.  It is working wonderfully.
Trudy is not feeling left out or neglected at all since we brought home the kitten.  Can you tell how much she loves attention and affection from Megan?
Plotting their escape?
