Fishing

Uncle Whitey took the kids fishing off the dock in Hubbard. Megan was proud to use her new Princess fishing rod, which apparently is just what she has always wanted. Meg caught the first fish, and led the group with 6. Jonathan caught 3. Eric caught one that jumped off the hook just as he was bringing it in.

Megan had fun watering Grandma's container plants. She even picked a few pansies.

Strawberry pickin

On our first day in Park Rapids, we went to a strawberry patch to pick some berries. We picked 4 buckets. They didn't last long.

Jesperson Orthodontics Family Fun Night

Eric was referred for braces just in time for us to be invited to the annual Jesperson Orthodontic Family Fun Night. The Super Slide Amusement Park was closed tonight for a party for his current patients. We got to enjoy all of the rides, hot dogs, chips, nachos, cookies, pop all for free (well, aside from the low low cost of Eric's braces). Each boy voted the roller coaster as their favorite. Megan was not tall enough to ride the same roller coaster, so she had to stick with the baby one, which she rode 4 times. I'm sure it was her favorite.

Megan enjoyed her first taste of pop (well, first taste that Mom voluntarily allowed or was aware of her having).

Megan got a hole in one of the 4th hole of the mini golf

Summer Playground Adventure

Yesterday the kids and I packed a picnic lunch and headed to Sertoma Park. It was a perfect day. We played on 6 different playgrounds. Jonathan and Eric brought their baseball gloves and played catch for awhile. They also saw their 1st grade teacher at one of the playgrounds. They talked her ear off with all they have been up to, and Megan filled her in on how Huxley bit her.

In other news, we have gone through nearly a box of band aids already in the 3 weeks of summer vacation. Some have been for blood control. Some have been for sympathy. This morning we went to Story time at the library, then Chanda came over with her kids for a playdate and another picnic. I think I am more tired than the kids are.

Princess Scooter

While the boys had fun at a birthday party on Saturday afternoon, Megan had fun riding her Princess Scooter. She finally learned how to move it forward by herself. She went back and forth across the driveway, but needed a few breaks to have a fruit snack, admire Mommy's petunias, admire our matching pedicures, and pick her nose.

Houseguest

We enjoyed having a houseguest last week. Huxley stayed with us for 5 days while his parents went on a romantic getaway. We refer to Hux as Megan's human doll. By day 3, Huxley realized that he weighs more than Megan, and learned that tackling her is pretty fun. The boys were great helpers to their little cousin, and he loved following them and trying to do everything they did (hence the tackling of Megan). Now that he is back with his Mommy and Daddy, our house is cleaner, we are getting better sleep, but we really, really miss him. Good thing we will see him again in six days.

FORTY!

Turning 40 is so special that I bought special candles for Don's cake. I figure I can re-use the "4" for Megan's birthday, and then save both for my 40th in 3 years, so I am getting my $3 worth.

100 years of Scouting

The boys and I took part in the 100 years of Scouting celebration on the Capital grounds this weekend. The grounds were turned into a campsite for Cub and Boy Scouts from the Northern Lights Council-nearly 3000 were in attendance. We were lightweights, and camped at home, but the boys did have fun helping others set up their tents last night. Today they had fun with archery, BB gun shooting, sling shots, military stuff, and other cool stuff.
