When I picked the boys up from school today, I noticed that Jonathan was missing his tooth on the bottom-it fell out during lunch time while eating an orange.
Later this evening, Eric managed to pull out one of his loose teeth on the top.
I wonder if the tooth fairy pays extra for them each losing a tooth on the same day???

First Day, First Grade
The boys had a great first day of First Grade. They were excited to see lots of their friends from Kindergarten. Both reported that Mrs. Steele is nice. One big change from Kindergarten is if you "pull a card", you are automatically docked 5 minutes of recess-no warnings this year. We'll see how long Eric can keep his streak alive for not having to pull a card yet.

Conversation with a 2 year old
A common dialogue in our home....
Megan: Mommy/Daddy you read me a book (holding favorite book of the week)
Mommy/Daddy: Not now Megan, Mommy/Daddy has already read that book 10 times today
Megan: Mommy/Daddy you read me a book (holding favorite book of the week)
Mommy/Daddy: Not right now Megan, I need to (insert necessary task that needs to be completed)
Megan: Mommy/Daddy you read me a book (holding favorite book of the week)
Mommy/Daddy: Megan you need to wait for Mommy/Daddy to finish (insert task attempting to finish)
Repeat the above sequence 5 consecutive times with no breaks or pause between sentences.
Megan: Mommy/Daddy you read me a book
Mommy/Daddy: (Sigh in defeat) Sure Megan, let's read the book.
Read favorite book of the week, then start at the beginning again.

Back to School Open House
The boys had their open house at school last night. They picked desks right next to each other (I am sure the teacher will quickly learn that is not a good idea). Unfortunately, their teacher was out of town for a funeral, so we did not get to meet her. We did learn that Jonathan was right, Mommy was wrong, and they do get TWO snacks a day. We also visited their Kindergarten teacher (which we will likely have to do every year) and their PE teacher. We learned from the librarian that first graders get 2 library books to check out each week.
I did not cry a tear last year, but I did feel a bit misty watching the boys along the walk to school. They are both excited, in fact, Jonathan was down right girlie with his giddiness. He also said he knows first grade will be "more challenging".

Tennis
The boys had their last tennis lesson today with our favorite girl, Kelly. We had a fun time learning to play. Kelly thinks Wimbledon may be in their future. I'm sure she wasn't just saying that to be nice. Driving home from tennis, we saw a deadish looking snake sprawled on its back in the middle of the road. Mom mustered up the courage to turn the Silver Bullet around so the boys could get a peek, since they did not see it on the first pass. It still looked dead. The bad news is, this road is along one of my favorite running routes. Guess I will have to find a new favorite route.
We also hit our 22nd playground today. Since we've come to the conclusion that all playgrounds look the same, I did not take pictures.

Betrayal
The Viking's Management betrayed me today. I was forced to take drastic measures to punish them for the pain and misery they have caused me by signing Brett "Pansy @#$" Favre to a 2 yr contract. I will get through this. I have loved them while strongly disliking certain players before (Wade Wilson, Jim McMahon, Corey Fuller, Troy Williamson, Todd Steussie).

Medora
Another 12 hour day of traveling fun for the LaFleurs. Today's adventure lead us to one of our favorite places, Medora. A bittersweet trip this year as Don and I remember our friend Wade Westin.
No trip to Medora is complete without a stop at the souvenier shop for piece of junk toy guns. The boys upgraded to a solid plastic shotgun this year (compared to the hollow plastic shotgun from last year). Megan wanted a lellow gun, but had to settle for pink. She did find the pink cowgirl hat she was asking for. We ate at the Chuckwagon Buffet, as we do every year, and like every year, the boys talk about how they used to be afraid of the stuffed buffalo, elk, and deer that decorate the restaurant. Mommy is still a bit creeped out about eating amongst dead, stuffed wildlife.
The boys loved hiking the trails in the park this year, and Megan did a great job of doing most of the walking by herself, too. And, no vacation day would be complete without rainfall. At least the cloudburst was short lived. The boys brought their shot guns on a few of the hikes.....you know, just in case we came across a Tatunka. The boys also earned their junior Park Ranger badges. I sure hope no one tries to litter, disturb animals, or pick a flower/plan in Teddy Roosevelt Natl Park in their presence. They are armed.

Great Playground Adventure of 2009, #18
Today we hit playground #18 of the summer-the Magical Moments Playground by Wachter Pool. We met some cousins from town and from Iowa. Good times.
This playground is fully accessible for kids who use wheelchairs. The Cerebral Palsy Family Support Group raised the funds to build it. It rocks.
Ironically, the kids did not play on the playground, but rather in the giant sandbox.
